Learning through Teaching
Thank you to everyone who came out for one of my workshops at The Marin Art & Garden Center in June.
Hello Galaxita Family,
My favorite part of teaching about EcoPrinting was when a student asked, “What happens if I try X with Y and then do Z?” and I got to answer, “I don’t know - let’s see!”. And then we ALL learned together!
Every time I experiment with EcoPrinting - it deepens my connection to the state of WONDER. Seeing that same wonder on each student’s face, and to hear the “ooooh’s” & “ahhhhh’s” around the room was pure joy.
With every question came a new hypothesis, leading to new experiments. As we tested each one, we discovered new techniques and so many happy accidents. We began to learn together, investigating as a group.
Galaxita is all about discovery - noticing tiny details - understanding beautiful juxtapositions & graceful connections - investigating materials and all of their attributes.
My dream has been to teach what I know - but what I learned in June is the more I teach - the more I learn!
Here are some of the things we experimented with in class:
🌿 bundle printing using botanicals, twine, & steam
🌿 hammer printing botanicals on paper & fabric
🌿 over-dyeing & under-dyeing EcoPrints with indigo & madder root
🌿 using iron water & iron blankets

So THANK YOU to all my students for teaching as much as you learned! I will gladly do the prep work and set the space for exploration anytime.
I loved reconnecting with repeat students & meeting new ones. So stay in touch through this newsletter and look for upcoming events on my website here 🧡
still in the works…
